My love for horses stretches far beyond the show ring. Building a relationship of trust and understanding with my horse is vital, and I have found the best way to do this is by spending time with and caring for your horse. Through years of experimenting to find the perfect balance between patience and discipline, I am now able to develop strong bonds with the horses I ride.
Horses provide incredible therapy and finally connecting with such a large animal is an unbelievably rewarding experience. Even though it is often a struggle – falling off, breaking bones, or being bitten and kicked – I have my horses to thank for all the times they have comforted me. Caring for such a complex animal by myself since a very young age has taught the importance of responsibility and commitment.
I am not the only one who finds tranquility in horseback riding. Horses are scientifically proven to be a very successful form of therapy. Fortunately, Southlands is home to STaRS (Southlands Therapeutic Riding Society). This incredible non-profit organization is a way for the disabled to improve their physical, cognitive, and emotional well being.
