From 2007 to 2012, I worked at Carrington Stables. I started at the bottom: mucking stalls and filing water buckets, but my dedication and strong work ethic finally landed me a position on the coaching staff.
Working with young children (up to twenty at a time and as young as six years old) taught me many valuable lessons. For example, I am much more patient than I used to be. I have learned not to get frustrated with the kids, but instead to try different methods of teaching until they all understand. It has also taught me to be a role model. I know these kids look to me for guidance and I must always lead by example. Finally, it has taught me a great deal of responsibility. When caring for over a dozen children at once, especially around dangerous and unpredictable animals, I must ensure that each and every child, as well as the horses, are safe and comfortable.
